If we trace the derivation of the word hallowed we will discover a most extraordinarily significant fact. The word hallowed has the same root as holy, whole, wholesome, and heal, or healed; so we see that the nature of God is complete and perfect—altogether good. Some very remarkable consequences follow from this fact. We have agreed that an effect must be similar in its nature to its cause, and so, because the nature of God is hallowed, everything that is projected by that Cause must be hallowed or perfect too. God cannot cause or send anything but perfect good. God cannot, as people sometimes think, send sickness or trouble, or accidents—much less death—for these things are unlike His nature.

Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity…
(Habakkuk 1:13).

This truth turns human perception on its head. We look around us and see sick ness, trouble, accidents and death. Then we might conclude that these things are caused by God, or that they are part of God’s creation. In fact, they are caused by our separation from God, supplanting our will for God’s or from the inability to control our thoughts as God directs us to do.

The problem here is that when human perception is based on our sensory limitations and our human desires and goals, then we are creating causes in our existence which then create effects that are contrary to God’s will and creation as a whole. For instance, how many of us truly believe that we could move a mountain with the faith of a mustard seed? The problem is not the truth of the statement, but the focus and sureness of our faith. Now, the perfection of faith is not an easy task. In fact, it is the hardest thing we can do because it seems so contrary to that which we see, taste, touch and smell. Further, we must desire it with all our heart and mind if we are to perfect our faith.

The key is to turn those perceptions on their head by focusing not on what we see, but on God’s will and wisdom. Regardless of what our senses are telling us, we must raise our consciousness above the material plane to the spiritual plane as directed by God. This discipline starts with directing our thoughts, words and deeds to discern and follow God’s will instead of our own. Then we will begin to see, hear and feel through God, and then we will begin to exist=2 0in the whole, healed, complete and perfect existence which is hidden by our physical nature and perception. This leap of faith catapults us from the imperfect and pain-filled human realm into the garden God created for us where we have eyes to see and ears to hear the real and perfect creation of God.

Seeing and hearing,

Having clearly established the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, Jesus next goes on to describe the fundamental facts of existence. It is the nature of God to be in heaven, and of man to be on earth because God is Cause, and man is manifestation. Here heaven stands for God or Cause, because in religious phraseology heaven is the term for the Presence of God. The word earth signifies manifestation, and man’s function is to manifest or express God as Cause. In other words, God is the Infinite and Perfect Cause of all things; but Cause has to be expressed, and God expresses Himself by means of man. Man’s destiny is to express God in all sorts of glorious ways. To express means to press outward, or bring into sight. Every feature of your life is really a manifestation or expression of something in your soul.

Since it is misunderstandings about the relationship of God and man that lead to all our difficulties, it is worth any amount of trouble to correctly understand that relationship. Trying to have manifestation without Cause is atheism20and materialism, and we know where they lead. “Our Father which art in heaven.”

…as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them…(2 Corinthians 6:16).

Simply put, this means that we are God’s consciousness in the material world. Our souls are the place where God exists on earth. Each of us is capable of expressing God’s nature, will and spirit on the physical plane. It also means that failure to accept our true nature as “children” of God condemns us to a life without knowing our true meaning or accomplishing our true purpose. When we truly understand this truth, we are then in a position to live a life as God planned, filled with miracles, hope, joy and peace. The path to true fulfillment in the Eden God created for God’s children, begins with this understanding.

Expressing God,

Father of All

He prayeth well, who loveth well
Both man and bird and beast;
He prayeth best, who loveth best
All things both great and small:
For the dear God who loveth us,
He made and loveth all.
—Coleridge

But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the Fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee…that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this (Job 12:7-9).

The love we give to others is the surest demonstration that we understand and appreciate the love that God the Father gives to us. So today, let us love fully, serve happily and live gratefully that we may exist in the reality of the Garden that God created for us.

With love,

Now the Prayer says, not “My Father,” but “Our Father,” and this indicates beyond the possibility of mistake, the truth of the brotherhood of man. If forces upon our attention at the very beginning the fact that all men are the children of one Father; and that

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28).

Here Jesus cuts away the illusion that the members of any nation, or race, or territory, or group, or class, or color, are, in the sight of God, superior to any other group.

The final point is the implied command that we are to pray not only for ourselves but for all mankind. None of us lives to himself, however we may try. In a much more literal sense than people are aware we are limbs of one Body.

“Our Father”—a spiritual explosive, that will ultimately destroy every kind of human bondage.

This truth means that we are all part of one family. God intended that humans not be separated from each other, just as we are not to be separated form God. Those things which separate us are barriers to our unity with one another and create obstacles to obeying God’s will. When Jesus gave his last wisdom to the disciples, his parting commandment was that we love one another as brothers and sisters. He did not say to love only those who look like us or with whom we agree. This, he said would be the sign that we belong to God. Father, grant this day that we love and pray for all our brothers and sisters, and that we follow your will in all ways.

Obediently,

Note that this clause that fixes the nature of God, at the same time fixes the nature of man. It is a cosmic law that like begets like. It is not possible that a rosebush should produce lilies, or that a cow should give birth to a colt. The offspring must be of the same nature as the parent; and so, since God is divine Spirit, man must essentially be divine Spirit too, whatever appearance may say to the contrary.

At a single blow this teaching of Jesus swept away 99 percent of all the old theology, with its avenging God, its chosen and favored individuals, its eternal hell fire, and all the other horrible paraphernalia of man’s diseased and terrified imagination. God exists—and the Eternal, All-Powerful, All-Present God is the loving Father of mankind.

If you would meditate upon this fact, until you had some degree of understanding of what it really means, most of your difficulties and physical ailments would disappear, for they are rooted in fear. If only you could realize to some extent that Omnipotent Wisdom is your living, loving Father, most of your fears would go. If you could realize it completely, every negative thing in your life would vanish away. Now you see the object that Jesus had in mind when he placed this clause first.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him (Genesis 1:27).

Just think, we are essentially the same type of being that God is. When we are able to peer through the veil of our sensory-limited perceptions and their false reality, and see our true nature, and experience existence through our spiritual awareness, then we will be living in the Garden. Then we will know true peace, free from fear and filled with hope, confidence an d joy.

Lord, let us live this day in your presence, fully aware of our true nature as children of God in love, faith and gladness.

In the true spirit,

Our Father

This simple statement fixes clearly the nature and character of God. It tells all that man needs to know about God, and about himself, and about his neighbor. Oliver Wendell Holmes said: “My religion is summed up in the first two words of the Lord’s Prayer.”

“Our Father.” In this clause Jesus lays down once and for all that relationship between God and man is that of father and child. This eliminates any possibility that the Deity could be the relentless and cruel tyrant. The majority of men and women are at their best in dealing with their children. Speaking of the same truth elsewhere, Jesus said:

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him? (Matthew 7:11).

It is hard to conceive of anything that would give us greater hope, faith and comfort, than to know that the creator of the universe is our Father and loves us as a Father loves their child. Beyond that, to know that we are created in God’s image and are the child of God means that we too are spirit beings that will exist forever. Even more astounding is the realization that, as God’s children, we are capable of manifesting his will here in the physical plane.

Yes, we are capable of miracles and and great power. However, this power does not come from us and can not be accessed by us except through submission to God’s will. Just as our earthly Father’s would not help us do something against their will that would hurt us, our heavenly Father will not grant his power for any use contrary to our best good. For instance, a good Father would not let a baby drive a car. Obedience and seeking to do God’s will, opens the channel through which God’s love, power and majesty flow into our lives. Just as on earth, when we listen to, understand and obey our heavenly Father, we will receive the power, protection, safety and blessings that are waiting for us.

In obedience, reverence and awe,

The Lord’s Prayer is the most important of all the Christian documents. Everyone who is seeking to follow along the Way that Jesus led, should pray the Lord’s Prayer intelligently every day.

The Great Prayer is a compact formula for the development of the soul. It is designed with the utmost care for that specific purpose, so that those who use it regularly, with understanding, will experience a real change of soul. It is the change of soul that matters. The mere acquisition of knowledge received intellectually makes no change in the soul.

The first thing that we notice is that the prayer naturally falls into seven clauses. This is very characteristic of the Oriental tradition. Seven symbolizes individual completeness, the perfection of the individual soul, just as the number twelve in the same convention stands for corporate completeness. The seven clauses are put together in perfect order and sequence, and they contain everything that is necessary for the nourishment of the soul. The more one analyzes the Lord’s Prayer, the more wonderful its construction is seen to be.

After this manner therefore pray ye…. (Matthew 6:9).

Jesus himself gave us the words of this prayer. He, who created us, died and was resurrected to save us and who left the Holy Spirit in us said pray in this manner. Like most truth conveyed by our Lord, its meaning goes several layers deep. When understood and accepted, this prayer will unlock the door of truth, feed the soul and guide us down the path toward fulfillment of God’s will in our lives.

Father, as we in the Good Morning Garden contemplate this prayer over the next few days, let every mind be opened and every heart be filled with the truth and joy that its understanding brings. Then, by your grace, may we all live this prayer each day, thereby securing our faith and our place in the Eden God gave us here, and in heaven forever with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Prayerfully,

Truth is within ourselves; it takes no rise
From outward things, whate’er you may believe.
There is an inmost center in us all,
Where truth abides in fullness; and around,
Wall upon wall, the gross flesh it in,
This perfect, clear perception—which is truth.

A baffling and perverting carnal mesh
Binds it, and makes all error; and to know,
Rather consists in opening out a way
Whence the imprisoned splendour may escape,
Than in effecting entry for a light
Supposed to be without.

—Robert Browning, “Paracelsus.” Part I

…Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).

This poem is a beautiful and artful way of saying that all we seek is already within us trying to get out. Or as we say in the Good Morning Garden “As within, so without”. When we express God’s truth, our light shines forth affecting everything around us. It is when we commune with God and obey God’s will through our faith and the Holy Spirit that we allow this light to show forth. Nothing we seek comes from without. All that we seek comes from within through God’s will and through God’s love for us. In essence, we must overcome this “baffling and perverting carnal mesh” that we call ourselves if we are to be the temple we were created to be. Then, we will radiate the love, hope and faith that God placed in the “inmost center in us all”.

Radiating light,

Prayer is the one thing that can make a change in your life. If you will go direct to God in simple, affirmative prayer, you can heal your body, bring peace and harmony into your life, and make well-being a reality.   Sometimes discouragement sets in when the answer does not come immediately but God is working on the unseen plane and our part is to be persistent. Persistence in prayer is an expression of our faith, for by our persistence we are affirming our belief that God will make his answer plain.   …Men ought always to pray, and not to faint. (Luke 18:1).

The key words here “persistence” and “affirmative prayer”, have two essential elements. One elemen t is that we should always pray. Whether we feel like it or not. When we are discouraged, sick, tired or angry we may not feel like praying. Yet these are the times it is most important. Even when our faith is weak, if we continue to pray, God will provide a way through all weakness and troubles.

The other key is that we should pray affirmatively. This does not mean asking God to do something each day until we get what we want. That demonstrates a lack of faith. It does mean visualizing, accepting, believing and affirming that God is working his will in our lives toward our best good. This is especially important when we find ourselves in doubt, difficulty, despair or desperation. When we truly believe that God is working in our lives, we can know that whatever is happening to us has a blessing within it. This faith empowers us to look for this blessing and enables us to have the courage, strength and confidence to accept the blessing and enjoy its benefits. In short, we can be filled with hope and confidence, even in the midst of our challenges.

So let us pray and affirm each day that God is with us and that he will is working in our lives to lift us up and to address our needs for our best good. Let us pray that God’s will be made known to us and that we have peace, joy and gladness each day in the Garden God created for us. Let us affirm each day that the Almighty God who loves us, sees all and knows all, is guiding us and shaping our reality into the Eden that waits each day for us.

Praying with persistence,

There is only one way to make spiritual progress, and that is to practice the Presence of God. Mankind is continually seeking to discover a shortcut but as usual the lazy man takes the most pains in the long run, and having wasted his time in wandering up bypaths, he is ultimately driven by failure and suffering to the realization of the grand truth that there is no substitute for prayer; that is, the conscious dwelling upon the Being of God.

If your intuitive nature is well developed, you will seldom need to use formal statements at all. This is excellent – for who will trouble to climb a ladder when he is strong enough to leap over the wall?

But it must not be overlooked that very many people do all their work with formal statements of Truth, and get consistently good results by working in this way. Not through repeating affirmations like a parrot. Those who work like a parrot inevitably make the parrot’s demonstration – they remain in the cage. Of a good worker who used the same phrases many times it was said by a friend: “He constantly uses the old affirmations, but he stuffs them with fresh feeling every time.”

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth (Psalm 145:18).

Prayer requires no pre-conditions. One does not have to “know how to pray”, feel God’s presence, be a church member, be educated in the scriptures or even be baptized, to pray and to believe in God. All one has to do is reach out to God (thereby affirming his existence), ask for God’s will to be done in one’s life and then act as if one’s prayer has been answered. Acting as if one’s prayers are being answered does require following God’s will in our thoughts, word and deeds.

This does not mean one has to be perfect or free from temptation. It does mean one has to reject temptation and negative behavior and when one succumbs to it, to repent and ask for forgiveness to start anew. This is commonly referred to as a leap of faith. Faith is the belief in things unseen. And though one may not see a burning bush or the parting of the sea, one will experience God’s presence in their lives and will see God’s hand at work in their lives. These manifestations of God will move us toward peace, joy and gladness so we can live a fulfilled existence in the Eden God created for us.

Praying in peace,

Z gardener

Author’s note – Today a new friend joins us in the Good Morning Garden. He is a very special and gentle spirit who occupies a beautiful place in the hearts of many. He is facing a life-threatening illness and needs our loving prayers and supplications. Please ask God that it be God’s will that he receive the miracle of God’s healing presence, and that he walk with God in peace, comfort, courage and hope. Thank you in advance for keeping this precious one in your prayers.
