One reason why many people find Creative Evolution so attractive is that it gives one much of the emotional comfort of believing in God and none of the less pleasant consequences. When you are feeling fit and the sun is shining and you do not want to believe that the whole universe is a mere mechanical dance of atoms, it is nice to be able to think of this great mysterious Force rolling on through the centuries and carrying you on its crest. If, on the other hand, you want to do something rather shabby, the Life-Force, being only a blind force, with no morals and no mind, will never interfere with you like that troublesome God we learned about when we were children. The Life-Force is a sort of tame God. You can switch it on when you want, but it will not bother you. All the thrills of religion and none of the cost. Is the Life-Force the greatest achievement of wishful thinking the world has yet seen?
In this writer’s opinion, evolution is the intelligent design of the creator. It is the way God created us. That does not obviate the existence of a conscious loving God who holds us accountable for our misdeeds. In fact, it is one of the most solid arguments for a loving God.
Why then, does a conscious loving God allow suffering (negativity)? It seems clear that physical existence is not possible without negative experiences. Without negative stimulus, the first simple organisms would have had no need to adapt and evolution would not have occurred.
It is no different in our daily lives. Our growth springs from overcoming adversity, just as our spiritual growth springs from mastering our doubts, egos and fear. No loving God would deny us the ability and yes, the inevitability of growing through adversity.

“Luke, feel the force…”
The concept of Chi, or Qi (“life force”), is found in the earliest recorded Chinese writings. It runs throughout most Asian culture, and is fully on par with Luke Skywalker’s “The Force” (modeled on Shaolin teachings and demonstrations regarding mental and spiritual prowess) which can be tapped into and used at will, once attuned.
Acupuncture/acupressure/deep massage strive to open the channels (clearing obstructions) for Chi (energy) to flow through by stimulating medians (pathways) in the body… sort of akin to removing blockages and coercing a stream to move along its natural path. Western medicine uses laser treatments and electric current to do basically the same thing. (The nervous system communicates with the brain which monitors and controls every cell in the body.)
Good epilogue! — Without adversity, evolution would not be necessary.
“Super-Bugs” in hospitals become such because they have been exposed to all sorts of challenges to their survival: Cleaners, iodine, bleach, alcohol, sterilization procedures, antibiotics, penicillin, light radiation, artificially induced high fever to kill off systemic bacteria/viruses, etc. –And the ‘bugs” still evolve, through DNA manipulation over numerous generations, into critters that are not affected by our best techniques to kill them. The same way insects become immune to our sprays. The same is true for how we overcome many diseases: through vaccination, or simply by bio-physical preservation… I can certainly see “intelligence” at work here (can’t think of a better word to describe it). Couple that with a physical force running through all life forms, and you have something both amazing and wonderful: “LIFE WILL FIND A WAY”.
The Buddhist strives to maintain a mindset of perfection, happiness, peace and harmony (Heaven within us), and the practiced monk lives there… in a projected reality, coming from within. This is very much akin to the concept and perception of the “Holy Spirit” within us — that God is omnipresent / always available… found inside of MIND (the only place that I have ever perceived either Evil or Faith).
Thoughts (physically) are electrical impulses; and memories (biologically) are chemical messages stored on neurons in the brain. Yet from a mental and spiritual perspective, their substance is a stand-alone existence, not trapped in the cranium (which could be viewed, in this context, as a sending and receiving station). Thoughts do “have wings”, and strong emotion can travel long distances and have impact. And, as Emmet Fox says, the marriage of thought and feeling is a powerful force. As we recently discussed, part of who we are is a compilation of our thoughts, feelings, memories and experiences. In cases of severe memory loss, dementia or even “brain-dead” coma, where these elements seem to be missing; there is still an essence which exists wherever there is LIFE.
Yes, strife/difficulty usually brings change; and therefore, we keep moving forward – else we die in stagnation… a law of Nature. So there’s really only one option. The only choice is what we believe.
“May the force be with you.”
